Reflexology
The human foot is a masterpiece of engineering and a work of art.

Reflexology is a holistic therapy based on the principle that specific areas of the feet and hands correspond to different organs, glands, and structures within the body.

The feet (and hands) can be seen as miniature maps of the body, where each area reflects a particular internal system. By applying gentle, targeted pressure to these reflex points, Reflexology aims to stimulate and support the corresponding parts of the body.
Using specialised pressure techniques, Reflexology can help identify areas of imbalance and encourage the body’s natural healing processes. Working through a network of zones and energy pathways, it can help to improve circulation, support nerve function, and promote overall balance within the body.

There are a number of theories that help to explain how reflexology works, drawing from both modern understanding and traditional healing systems.

One widely recognised theory is the zone theory, which suggests that the body is divided into ten vertical zones running from the head down to the feet. Each zone is connected to specific organs and structures. By applying pressure to reflex points within these zones on the feet or hands, Reflexologists aim to influence the corresponding areas of the body and support balance across these systems.

Another perspective focuses on the role of the nervous system. The feet contain thousands of nerve endings, and stimulating these through Reflexology can help to send signals to the brain, encouraging the body to relax and regulate itself. This can support improved circulation, reduced tension, and an overall sense of wellbeing.

Reflexology is also often linked to traditional Eastern practices, such as acupuncture and acupressure, and the concept of meridian energy pathways. According to this view, a healthy body relies on the free flow of energy. Stress, tension, and lifestyle factors can disrupt this flow, leading to imbalance. Reflexology can help to clear these blockages, restoring harmony and supporting the body’s natural healing processes.

In addition, Reflexology is thought to encourage a deep state of relaxation, which allows the body to shift out of “fight or flight” mode and into a more restorative state. In this relaxed state, the body is better able to repair, rebalance, and function optimally.

Reflexology is a gentle, natural and non-invasive therapy that works through therapeutic touch to support relaxation, wellbeing, and balance across the body’s systems.

Today, reflexology is increasingly used in a variety of settings, including hospitals, to support relaxation, stress reduction, and overall wellbeing.

As a qualified Reflexologist, I am a member of the Association of Reflexologists (AoR) and registered with the Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC). Choosing a CNHC-registered practitioner ensures you are receiving treatment from someone who is fully trained, insured, and committed to high professional standards.
